Tabula Rasa

To go far beyond where you have already gone with a certain goal, you will have to do something completely different. And that would mean stepping out of your comfort zone, Leo. You are ordinarily a very brave person with a pioneering spirit, but now you may be feeling blocked in some way. You probably realize that the answer is to do what you’re doing in a new and different way. It is hard to break free of old habits and standards. But once you do, you will find that you feel remarkably liberated. Spread your wings and soar.

What a shit-inducingly accurate horoscope. Let me tell you right now, I’m not into that horoscope shit. I don’t believe it. The stars can’t explain everything but they can provide some good advice. Usually I read mine because it provides a laugh… but lately it’s been spot-on. Fucking cheesy (“spread your wings and soar”) but spot-on nonetheless.

You know how I was. I was not happy. And I was stuck in that phase of my life where I knew that I wanted to change, that I needed to change, but something in me couldn’t change. Greece did that for me. I don’t know how or what or why but I am grateful. Because now I feel like I can change. I just want to go and live a life that I am proud of and that is mine and no one else’s. It’s weird because I’m in the exact same situation as I was before my trip but I just feel good.

I’ve realised that when I’m not happy I need to do something about it. I’ve been doing everything the same, living everyday the same… and it wasn’t doing anything for me. I was so comfortable. But who wants to be comfortable when you’re 21? NO ONE. You want to be out travelling, meeting new people, making mistakes, breaking rules, having FUN.

My horoscope says it all. Do something differently. Try new things. That’s exactly what I am striving to do. I’ve wiped my slate clean to make way for my life to begin again, the right way. I have a new job instead of the same, comfortable job I’ve had for the last three summers. I am living on my own in the city, experiencing the beauty of an urban summer. I’m just putting myself in so many new situations because there’s no other way to grow.

Greece was my trigger, the foundation for my tabula rasa. And now, signing off with a Gatsby quote (a film I can’t wait to see and a novel I can’t wait to reread)…

“And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer.” – F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby

  1. I just loved the Isles of Greece. Spent time on Santorini and Mykonos

    • I just went on a cruise to Mykonos, Patmos, Rhodes, Crete, and Santorini but you definitely picked my two favourites. I wish I would have had more time there (as a traveller always wishes) and in Ios though! Thanks for reading my post 🙂
